 Water contamination has become a global challenge. Due to its manifold use by humans, substances such as fertilizers, pesticides, heavy metal compounds and more can be traced in water supplies in all but the most remote regions of our planet. Because of the associated health risks, the World Health Organization (WHO) has issued guideline values for about 200 substances found in water. These guideline values, together with local hydrogeological conditions, form the basis of country-specific limits.
